A Handful of Mac OS X Tips

Lately,I’ve started to notice the slew of little OS X tidbits I’ve been dispersing to friends. Many of them solve little nagging problems I’ve had with Mac OS X and Macs in general, some not so much, but here are my top kung-fu moves for working inside of OS X.

  • 1. Kill displays with a keyboard shortcut.
    If you’re like me and scoot to and from the desk a lot, and have some kind of gripe with having your monitor(s) burning up precious kWh, you can put them to sleep with a keyboard shortcut. Ctrl + Shift + Eject will turn off the displays, but leave your Mac running.

A Fun Night at St Pancras

A little ramble about what happened after visiting a friend in London.

The fun all begins at a little station called Euston.

Heading into the London Underground segment of the station, I put my February 23rd Day Travelcard into the ticket barrier, only to be greeted with a flashing red “SEEK ASSISTANCE”.
It was hardly a surprise–the ticket hadn’t worked at all today–so obediently I waddled over to a member of staff, showed my card, and was less than enthusiastically let through.
